Mission Statement:

Through our programs and initiatives at Neighbors in Action,

we help ensure that food relief and social interactions

have a more meaningful and enduring impact.

Since our inception in 2004, Neighbors in Action (formerly Faith in Action) has provided supplemental food support and socially enriching programs to encourage neighbor-to-neighbor connections and support.

With locations in two rural Vermont towns, Cabot and Lyndonville, Neighbors in Action is accessible to residents from a wide area, including Washington County and the Northeast Kingdom (Caledonia and Essex Counties).

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our founder, Reverend William Ellis Cobb.  Bill passed away at his home in Tennessee on April 12th, two weeks after we closed on the purchase of our permanent home in Cabot Village.

Bill Cobb was the reverend at the Cabot United Church and, in 2002, began delivering food to neighbors in need with a pick-up truck.  In 2004 he began using the church basement for food distribution.  In 2007 he incorporated Faith in Action, Inc. as a private non-profit and moved it into our current space at 3339 Main Street.

Over the past 20 years Faith in Action changed its name to Neighbors in Action.  We’ve continued to carry out the good work that Bill started in 2002, relying upon volunteerism and neighbor-to-neighbor connections to get the enormous job of addressing food insecurity and rural isolation, making light work and raising spirits along the way.

We are grateful for the nurturance Reverend Cobb dedicated to our program over its first few decades in existence.  His vision continues to guide our work today.

Bill’s  funeral service will be held at the Cabot Community Church on Friday, May 10th at 11 a.m.

There will be a gathering of friends and family at the Neighbors in Action building in Cabot following the service.
