2021 Achievement Report

Jan 30, 2022
Happy New Year,

Faith in Action is honored to serve those in need in the Northeast Kingdom and Washington County. Our mission is to serve food insecure community members, offer socially enriching programs, and advance opportunities to increase self-sufficiency in the communities we serve while deploying the neighbors-helping-neighbors volunteer model to instill hope and leave an enduring impact. The pandemic, and its effects, continue to challenge us to find new and creative ways to serve our community.

In 2021, Faith in Action provided monthly food supplies to 531 households / 1497 community members. We also distributed 11,067 prepared meals through the Everyone Eats program and our monthly  Community Dinners. In addition, the Everyone Eats program supported the business owners and employees of The Cabot Village Store, The Den, and Joe’s Kitchen by purchasing the meals from these businesses.  Connection with local seniors occurred through summer Senior Adventure Mornings, Zoom exercise classes, and delivery of treat bags to homebound community members during the holidays. In December, the Toy Share program provided Christmas gifts to 240 local area children.

Faith in Action has many plans for 2022, including a name change to Neighbors in Action --- a name that aligns with our mission and service delivery model. Additionally, we are excited to offer the Cabot Harvest Hub as part of the Neighbors in Action offerings. The Cabot Harvest Hub serves as a distribution hub and supportive community for local food producers while providing locally sourced food and items to the greater community. Finally, in 2022, Neighbors in Action plans to offer new   socially enriching programs, including an online book club, exercise   classes, health and wellness opportunities, business development   workshops, volunteer training, and much more!

We are incredibly grateful for our Faith in Action community, and we look forward to continuing our services in the year ahead as Neighbors in Action.

Happy New Year, As we reflect upon 2020, it is apparent that the pandemic has had far-reaching, inequitable, and sometimes dire effects on many Vermonters. Faith in Action started 2020 with plans to expand our socialization and independent living programming. However, the pandemic quickly sidelined our plans, and providing food to unemployed and isolated community members became critical as the country went into lockdown. Faith in Action immediately expanded our services by providing food delivery to homebound community members in the Lyndonville area and incorporating curbside delivery at Food Share events in Cabot. In the summer and fall of 2020, Faith in Action was out in the community delivering meals to community members in need. We distributed 3,541 meals through the Everyone Eats program, 650 meals through the Juniper's Out program, and 479 meals were served at the Cabot Community Dinners for a total of 4,670 meals distributed in 2020 through Faith in Action's efforts! We also started offering Arthritis Exercise Classes via Zoom to folks wanting to stay active and safe at home. At Christmas time, the annual Toy & Clothing Share served 203 children in Cabot and the surrounding towns. It was a challenging year. We learned to pivot quickly and be flexible during the unprecedented pandemic. Our services continued to be possible during this time of extreme need through the enduring support of volunteers, employees, board members, community members, and financial supporters. We are incredibly grateful for our Faith in Action community, and we look forward to continuing our services in the year ahead. 2020 Achievement Report THANK YOU! Cynthia Stuart Executive Director

Reports of long lines at National Guard distributed food drives highlight just how easily and quickly the average Vermonter can become food insecure. Every car in the line tells the story of a family who is living with the uncertainty of how they will provide adequate nourishment for the ones they love.
